Joint Wills Overview
Joint wills are the wishes of two or more people reflected in one document. A joint will can also be a mutual will, where two people make their wills and agree that the other won’t change it when one passes away. These types of wills are not common today, and we do not accommodate them on Willful.
Planning for Blended Families
Sometimes, people want to ensure that if they leave everything to their spouse, the spouse won’t be able to cut the children out of their will later. This is common in blended families.
Options for Planning
1. Creating a Spousal Trust
2. Naming Children as Beneficiaries
- Life insurance policies
- Registered savings accounts
3. Creating a Mutual Will
- With an agreement that prohibits the surviving spouse from altering the will
At this time, Willful does not offer these services.
Willful's Premium Bundle
With Willful, our Premium Bundle lets you purchase two plans in a bundled package and invite your spouse from your account page. This way, you each have your own account and will, reflecting your wishes for your assets (outside of anything jointly owned) and naming key roles like executor or guardian for minor children. You can each make changes to your documents at any time.
